Telangana: Celebrating Ganesh utsav eco-friendly way

For green future: Sulakshya Seva Samithi has been donating clay idols for the past five years.

Warangal Urban: Sulakshya Seva Samithi (SSS), a Hanamkonda-based voluntary organisation, with active support of Srinagar (south) Colony development committee is all set to distribute clay Ganesh idols to residents of Srinagar Colony in Hanamkonda.

Founder president of the Samithi Santhosh Manduva said that they had been donating the clay idols for the past five years with a motto of ‘Protect the environment’. “We want to create awareness among citizens to install Ganesh idols made of clay which is eco-friendly rather than idols made of plaster of paris which is extremely harmful to the environment,” he added.

“We are doing our bit in reviving the age-old tradition of installing eco-friendly clay idols. I urge all the citizens to install eco-friendly idols both at pandals and at homes. We need to keep up the spirit of this festival intact without damaging the eco-system. It is our responsibility to carry forward our rich heritage and culture,” he stated. Srivalli Paladugu is donating clay idols this year.

Convener of the Ganapathi Navaratri Utsava Samithi Paladugu Chandraprakash Rao stated that they had unanimously taken a decision to install a clay idol and were doing it from past five years.

President of the colony development committee Bandi Narayana said, “We are organising the nine-day fest in a traditional way. A series of programmes including bhajans, music concerts, classical dance, philanthropic activities, recitation of shlokas, mass food feeding are being planned.”

General secretary of the colony Abbu Buchi Reddy stated, “We have been trying to revive art forms by organising programmes such as hari katha, burra katha, bhajans, with an intention to educate the younger generation.”

Treasurer of the colony development committee Mandala Ravinder Reddy said that they were also helping the underprivileged during the celebrations.
