Tata Steel’s Community Initiatives recognised at 5th CSR Impact Awards

Jamshedpur: Tata Steel’s community-based initiatives in Education and Healthcare were recognised at the 5th CSR Impact Awards, instituted by NGOBOX-Dalmia Bharat Group. The company’s signature programme on Education titled: Thousand Schools Programme was awarded the ‘Project of the Year’ while the application in the Healthcare category (large) titled: MANSI (Maternal and Newborn Survival Initiative) received the ‘Special Mention by Jury’.

The awards on ‘Project of the Year’ was presented by Anant Kumar Hegde, Minister of State, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India and Mahendra Singhi, Group CEO-Cement, Dalmia Cement Ltd to Smita Agarwal, Head, Education, CSR, Tata Steel. The ‘Special Mention by Jury’ award was presented by Padma Shri Sushil Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, Asian Hotels (West) to Niloy Mitter, Head, Health, CSR, Tata Steel.

The applications comprised two out of a total of 110 entries that underwent a two-stage evaluation process concluding with the Jury Round. The awards were given away at the inaugural session of ‘India CSR Summit & Exhibition 2018’ at J W Marriott, New Delhi.

Speaking for the moment, Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice President, Corporate Services, said: “Tata Steel’s commitment to its communities stems from a deep-seated adherence to its legacy of inclusive growth. We are happy that our signature programmes on education and health, Thousand Schools Programme and MANSI, have been able to create models which reach deep within our communities to help address their fundamental development needs. We endeavour to see a similar progression for all our community-led engagements, going forward”.

Sourav Roy, Chief, CSR, Tata Steel emphasized that Corporate Citizenship was a key aspect of Tata Steel’s vision statement and underscored one of its four core strategic objectives. Therefore, addressing fundamental development challenges within its communities by bringing in the necessary resources, talent and expertise in the process was germane to its way of doing business, adding that both Thousand Schools Programme and Project MANSI were shining examples of this larger intent.
