Superdrug has officially opened its “most sustainable store” within Peterborough Serpentine Green Shopping Centre after releasing its first ever CSR report.

The new store focuses on sustainability within the stores design and construction.

Following Superdrug’s Doing Good Feels Super campaign launch in April this year, the retailer joined the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment.

As part of the Planet CSR pillar, the Peterborough Serpentine Store features fully recyclable signage that features graphics produced from recycled yarn and plastic bottles, and ceiling tiles made from bio-soluble mineral wool, clay and starch as well as being 100 per cent recyclable.

It also features a reduced number of LED Mod lights in the ceiling, AAA efficiency rated air conditioning, and waste management target of five per cent to landfill.

Customers visiting the Peterborough Serpentine store can choose from a wide range of health and beauty products, including Superdrug’s own brand ranges with sustainability commitments including Vitamin E, Fruity and Luna as well as leading brands with similar pledges such as Palmer’s Weleda and Wild Earth.

The new Peterborough Serpentine store also features its very own Beauty Studio area where customers can access professional treatments at affordable prices.

Within Beauty Studio, customers will have access to threading services and two nail bars offering classic and gel manicures.

“We are incredibly proud to announce the opening of our brand-new Peterborough Serpentine Green store, where sustainability has been the focus of its development, construction and design from conception to reality,” Superdrug property director, Nigel Duxbury said.

“Following this year’s first ever CSR report, I’m delighted to share our dedication to our strategic Planet CSR pillar with sustainability-led design features within the store as well as stocking incredible own brand ranges that are making dedicated eco-conscious changes to their products.

“We’re confident we are listening and working with our customers to launch landmark changes, and this is reflected within Peterborough Serpentine Green store.

“The team at Superdrug look forward to expanding on these eco-conscious changes and implementing them in further stores nationwide.”
