HYDERABAD/VISAKHAPATNAM: Spiritual guru Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, said that instead of pushing for a women’s reservation bill in parliament, there should be more focussed approach to empower them to address gender disparity.
Sadhguru was in the city on Monday for a talk on ‘leadership empowerment in women’, an event that was held by the women’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and industry (FICCI) of Hyderabad. The talk was presided by Kalvakuntla Kavitha, MP and member of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
“In political arena reservations shouldn’t exist. Only if you work and endear yourself to people, should they vote for you, and not because you are a man or a woman. Such a move would hit at fundamentals of democracy,” said Sadhguru, in response to Kavitha’s question on need of 33% women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
The founder of Isha Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, also stressed that women have seen a rise in empowerment over the past two decades and believes a level playing field will become a reality in 15-20 years.
“About 70 per cent of the positions at Isha Foundation are handled by women. That is because I designate responsibilities irrespective of the gender. We need to first create a society that is educated and empowered. But surgical interventions in the form of new laws will only cause more obstacles than solve the issue,” pointed out Sadhguru.
The yogi also said that rise in crimes against women can be negated by providing better lives for the youngsters who migrate from the small villages to the metropolitan towns.
“These are young men who leave the comfort of their villages into a harsh city. We as a society need to understand that it is a humanitarian issue. I am not condoning these crimes but we cannot place all of these men in concentration camps, they need to be given a better life,” said Sadhguru.
Later in Visakhapatnam, Sadhguru spoke about the Science of life and how consciousness plays a key role in taking charge of one’s life. He talked about the importance of exploring life and being happy about how good things happen to us rather than being disappointed and swallowed by the things that have not worked for us.
Sadhguru also addressed questions raised by movie star Rakul Preet Singh on various issues concerning life, re-birth and the cycle of life. While answering the query on re-birth, Sadhguru stressed on why a psychological analysis of the phenomena is flawed and does not help in breaking the barrier of the cycle of life. He further pointed out that the past life is a memory that everybody carries and yet the data cannot be comprehended because we can tap into very little of the different kinds of memory we possess.
