JORHAT, Sept 27: Pollution free and butterfly-friendly puja mandaps is the flavour of Durga Puja this year as at least two well-known puja committees in the city have chosen the eco-friendly theme for this year’s puja celebration, said Sumit Roy, the committee secretary of JRP Puja Committee on Wednesday.
The theme-based Puja celebration has become fashionable since the past three years, not only in Jorhat but in entire Upper Assam, including Dergaon and Tinsukia.
The JPR Puja Committee has highlighted pictures of wildlife. Wild animals are shown loitering inside the sanctuary while the idol of Maa Durga is stepping towards the masses from a dense forest. The mandap has been erected in the form of a huge hill and on top of it there is a Shiv Mandir where animals like lion, tiger, deer and rabbits are seen loitering peacefully within the dense forest around the Shiv Mandir.
Inside the puja mandap there are writings carrying the message not to cut trees and to plant trees to save Mother Earth.
Another crowd puller is the Rupali Ali puja mandap within the Jorhat city which has been built in the theme of a butterfly falling on a big stone to create environment awareness, said Muku Barkotoky, an organizer.
