‘Jobs for Her’ programme; Break in career is no longer an issue

Anupama Sandeep has launched ‘Jobs for Her’ programme that helps women get back to their careers after a break or motherhood.

Purpose

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:At 29, Anupama Sandeep went job hunting, most companies turned her down. The break in her career and that she was having a baby didn’t look ‘too good’ on her resume. But she wasn’t one to back down and went on to launch her own company. Now, one year hence, Anupama is championing the cause of countless women like her who are finding it difficult to get their careers back on track on account of breaks.

It is a clarion call to womenfolk to return to their careers. The ‘Jobs for Her’ programme launched by ‘Carisma’, a women empowerment programme initiated by her company Young Genius Education, attempts just that.

“There are several educated and professionally-qualified women who find it difficult to get jobs due to a break in their career. We are trying to empower them to get jobs,” says Anupama who has experienced the pangs of being denied jobs for no fault of hers. The programme attempts to provide a platform for the women to be mentored by professionals and acts as a facilitator to ensure that they get jobs.

As many as 60 participants attended the first edition of the programme which was held in the city. “Out of this, five got jobs within 10 days,” she adds enthusiastically. Flooded by calls from across the state for more of such programmes, Anupama has launched the second edition, just a few weeks after the first one. “There are several women who are forced to the confines of their homes due to a break in their career. Often after a few years of being away from the industry, they lack confidence while some fall back on technical expertise. With the programme we try to mould and empower them to garner jobs,” explains Anupama.

The second edition will be held in the city on July 13. Apart from a seminar where experts deliver a motivational talk, the programme will see representatives of companies introducing the various job opportunities.

Those aspiring for technical as well as non-technical jobs can register for the meetup. The session can be availed free of cost by those who register. “If they opt for more training sessions, those can be availed for a nominal fee. For instance, last time we arranged a training session following requests by some women,” she says.

“Further, we also try to act as a facilitator by intimating the participants about job openings and sending across their CVs,” she adds.

The programme will also offer a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their products. “There are several women who work from home. They who lack avenues to exhibit their products. These women will get to display their products at the meet,” Anupama says. She has also launched a programme to help women battling cancer.

The registration for the second edition has started and can be done by contacting 9745544422.
Meanwhile, the third edition will be held in Kottayam and soon the ‘Jobs for Her’ meets will be held across Kerala. There is no stopping this woman.  “The idea is to empower women, to get them back in the field,” she beams.
