These 21 people are an inspiration to all those people who blamed their fate for whatever they could not achieve in life. They did not lament about what they lacked, but banked in on what they possessed. And in most cases, it is their mere will power that is in focus.
Visitors taking a look at the paintings drawn by the differently abled at a State-level exhibition at the Lalitha Kala Akademi art gallery in Kozhikode.
It is not just the quality of the works displayed that makes ‘Swapna Chitra’, an exhibition of 21 artists going on at the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery here, noticeable, but the artists themselves. They are all differently challenged in one way of other. Starting from Mahesh who was affected by polio to Satheesh Kumar who is hearing and speech impaired, these artists have come up with their respective ‘Swapna chitras’ (paintings of their dreams). Sunitha Thripanikara who paints with her mouth and Devika C.P. who paints with her legs stand out for their sheer will power to master art at the face of the greatest adversities.
It seems the viewers too have realised the artists’ effort, as evident from the ‘Sold’ signs hanging on most of the paintings.
Baiju, Anju M, Jishnu P, Amal Das, Hafsal K.P., Sajitha M, Sibith M, Mehroof, Sruthin, Devika Manoj, Diya V. James, Pristo, Abhirag, Ajoth, Ummil Kuls and Mohammed Sinod are the other artists who have displayed their works here.
The exhibition that started on December 6 was inaugurated by noted artist Kabitha Mukhopadhyaya. It was organised by ‘Dream of Us’, a voluntary organisation. The show that featured around 85 works by artists from eight districts of Kerala concluded on Sunday.
