With a vision to promote a greener environment, the hotel has installed electronic air filters that remove airborne particles and also planted various air-purifying plants that have been beautifully placed at various public areas in the hotel.These plants have been carefully handpicked and have unique purification properties that help in creating a healthier space.Snake plants placed in the hotel lobby are known for purifying the air and removes formaldehyde and nitrogen oxide produced by fuel-burning appliances. Peace lily, spider plants, mother’s plant, money plant, and aloe vera are some of the plants that are quite popular for improving the air quality, which can be seen in the hotel area.Apart from plantation techniques, Shangri-La has also installed water aerators in the guestrooms’ health faucets to save water. The old coal-fired tandoors have been replaced with Piped Natural Gas (PNG) fired tandoors. Special winnow machines have been installed in the restaurant to track food waste. An eco-friendly technology called ‘Steam Clean’ uses steam to clean the guest areas instead of chemicals. To ensure a sustainable environment, Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru is also focusing on saving power and see green initiatives at the hotel which works to minimise the impact on the environment while conserving biodiversity and managing waste, water, and energy.Around 80% of the hotel is getting power supply from solar and wind energy, which helps in minimising commercial energy consumption.Water treatment plant supplies treated and recycled water to the cooling tower used for centralised air conditioning and are also used to water the vertical garden outside and inside the hotel premises.Organic waste of the hotel is recycled in the organic waste convertor to become compost through an aerobic process. Compost from the waste convertor is rich in nutrients such as phosphorus, potassium, and nitrogen, and makes a natural fertilizer for the kitchen and herb garden of Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru.All the initiatives at the hotel ensure day-to-day operations to promote and implement responsible environmental practices.
