The State Bank of India will formally commission a ₹2.12-crore project under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for providing toilets with water connections in 50 government schools in Palakkad.
Another CSR initiative that would go on stream is the SBI’s digital village initiative spread over six villages in Kerala.
In a statement here on, the SBI said the toilets were conceived under the Swachh Vidyalaya campaign. Under the scheme, one combined toilet block each with proper water connection has been provided to 50 government schools in Palakkad.
One combined toilet block contains four urinals and one water closet each for girls and boys. The project cost includes ₹20 lakh for maintenance for two years. The bank included the two-year maintenance cost to ensure cleanliness of toilets and also to built and create responsibility among children. As for the digital village initiative, the SBI Kerala circle identified Balal in Kasargod, Kaipamangalam in Thrissur, Kunnukara and Maradu in Ernakulam, Chirakkadavu in Kottayam and Kallooppara in Pathanamthitta.

The SBI digital village initiative envisages transformation of villages into cashless ecosystems that are safe, health and vibrant.
The SBI said it had conducted surveys in the selected villages prior to donating computers with Internet facilities for reputed clubs and organisations who will provide free Internet banking facility to general public.
