NEW DELHI: Over the last few years, Rotary in India has been strategically focusing on deepening its social impact, both by engaging more volunteers in its network, and forging trusted partnerships with leading institutions, government bodies and corporate partners, finding solutions for some of the most pressing needs of local communities.
As of 2017, Rotary’s network in India stands strong with more than 4000 clubs with over 1.6 lakh members committed to tackle the most pressing humanitarian challenges. Globally, Rotary connects 1.2 million professionals from diverse backgrounds and cultures from over 200 countries and geographical areas.
In India, Rotary works towards bringing positive, lasting change across communities through its associate foundation, The Rotary Foundation India (RF (I) registered as a society in India under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 in February 1988).
RF (I) receives donations and contributions from individuals, other philanthropic entities and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds from Corporates. These contributions are disbursed by way of grants for structured Foundation programs primarily under the following six areas of focus, which align well with Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013. These are:
- Water & Sanitation
- Basic Education & Literacy
- Maternal & Child Health
- Economic & Community Development
- Disease Prevention & Treatment
- Peace & Conflict Resolution.
Over the last three years, RF(I) has implemented approximately Rs. 850 million for humanitarian and educational programs in the last 3 financial years.
Today, Rotary is working closely with several leading corporate partners to implement global grant projects through Rotary districts/clubs. RF (I) has received a total of INR 4 Crores under CSR funds since October 2016. This includes INR 108 Lakhs under Education, INR 161 Lakhs under Water & Sanitation and INR 144 Lakhs under Health.
Rotary’s current CSR partners include Gestamp Automotive India Pvt. Ltd., Gwalior Alcobrew Pvt. Ltd, B.L. Agro Oils Ltd, Naini Tissues Ltd., Zeco Aircon Pvt. Ltd., Airef Engineers Pvt. Ltd., RDS Projects Ltd., Foseco India Ltd., Kanam Latex Industries Pvt. Ltd., K M Sugar Mills Ltd amongst others.
