Improving health for humans henceforth became the driving force in his life. Kamaljeet Singh Hayer is an attorney by profession but his purpose in life is a lot more meaningful. While his grandfather lived a long, healthy and a full-filling life, his father passed away at the 53 due to a heart attack and his brother passed away at the mere age of 10 due to a brain tumour. This made him realise how health is deteriorating generation after generation. He learnt that people’s health is directly related to the food they consume. The deteriorating quality and the lack of pure food adversely impacts human health and their lifespan. Older generation consumed pure food and led a simple life. They in fact grew their own food and consumed it without any chemicals or contaminants. He sought to bring back this purity of foods to improve the health of this generation and the generation to come. That’s when he started eco-framing. As lawyer, Kamaljeet was earning 1.5 lakh rupees a month. In 2012, he decided to follow his passion of eco-framing. But, in 2015, he traded his job and dedicated his efforts to eco-farming which was a lot more fulfilling for him. He fought his family to do what he loves. He decided to enliven his dead ancestral land into a natural organic farm.Having no idea about organic farming, he reached out to KVM, Kheti Virasat Mission through which he attended many workshops. On one such workshop, he came across the natural farming stalwart, Dr Om Prakash Rupela. In spite of his resistance, Singh was able to compel Dr Rupela to give his project a chance. Thanks to Dr Rupela’s support, Singh was able to make his dream into a reality.Sadly, Dr Rupela passed away in 2015 leaving Kamaljeet feeling depressed and helpless. But, the friends and family at KVM helped Kamaljeet continue with the dream he started with Dr Rupela. His hard work, persistence and his courage to take a leap of faith led him to have a 20-acre eco-farm that not only makes his kitchen independent but also brings in income.Today, he has good footfall of visitors on his farm and is also conducting free training sessions to spread awareness and equip more and more farmers with importance and application of organic farming. It’s all about living with a purpose!
