He said this while addressing Kuwadzana residents who had complained about skyrocketing prices of meat. The president went as far as claiming that he had personally adopted the vegetarian diet as per instructions from his medical doctor. However, his speech did not sit well with citizens. It took social media by storm so much that it became a household joke with Mnangagwa being ridiculed for his insensitivity. Mnangagwa’s advice was also compared to French Queen Marie Antoinette’s infamous “let them eat cake” advice. According to legend, upon being told that the French people were suffering due to widespread bread shortages, the Queen is said to have replied, “Then let them eat cake.”Nonetheless, Philip Wollen, and Ivy League Universities Cornell and Harvard believe the optimum amount of meat in a healthy human diet is precisely Zero. Meaning resorting to a vegetarian meal is of much better health.Moreso, there is a strong belief cutting meat will ultimately end starvation, especially in third world countries like Zimbabwe and adopting a vegetarian meal will not only give you a healthy life but help you not to stay poor.
