Puthur: Reena Joseph (33), a native of Poovattur, has become an icon of women empowerment after she joined as tractor driver. Kulakada grama panchayat has appointed her to the post of tractor driver at the Krishi Bhavan.
Now, giving a tough competition to men, this lady tractor driver has started to plough fields for farming.
On her first task, she ploughed a barren land for organic vegetable cultivation at Erathukulakkada. As it was her first day on duty, husband Jose accompanied her to give necessary guidelines.
Apart from tractor driving, she is also a mechanic of agriculture machinery. She is an expert in replacing tyre and other spare parts of the machines.
After completing VHSE agriculture, she studied mechanic agricultural machinery at Chengannur ITI for two years. During this period of her studies, she obtained a license for tractor driving.
Later, she joined for 4-month-long training at Southern Farm Missionaries Training Institute in Andhra Pradesh. Following the training, she worked in Chennai and Aluva.
“Actually, I planned to go for higher studies after VHSE. But I was forced to opt a career as agriculture machinery mechanic due to financial issues.
Though it is a tough job, I enjoy it a lot,” said Reena Joseph.
