Greenwashing is a fact of modern marketing life these days. Companies increasingly want to be seen as eco-friendly and sustainable. However, some are more sustainable than others. One company that seems to be putting its money where its mouth is has announced a pair of biodegradable true wireless earbuds.
Majority was set up in Cambridge, in 2013. The company produces sustainable audio products, including soundbars, speakers, radios and earbuds. It wants to be the first carbon-neutral audio brand, but several other audio companies have also made that claim.
The new TruBio true wireless earbuds were announced today in a press release from the company. The earbuds and their charging case are made using biodegradable plastic and are driven by 13mm bio-cellulose speaker drivers made from certified compostable plastic. Majority wants the TruBio earbuds to be a consumer product that can be enjoyed before eventually being recycled without affecting the environment.

As well as being more sustainable than some earbuds made without using biodegradable and recycled plastic, Majority claims the TruBio TWS earbuds pack a punch with dynamic drivers that deliver a balanced sound with deep bass and clear highs. The latest Bluetooth 5.3 technology provides a stable and fast connection, creating a reliable listening experience. For gamers and movie watchers, the earbuds offer an ultra-low game latency of 55 – 70ms to ensure synchronization.
Weighing just 43g, the Majority TruBio Earbuds are light enough to stuff in a pocket or pop in a handbag. The earpieces are petite and measure just 29 x 17 x 13mm making them small enough to be comfortable but large enough to sit securely in the wearer’s ear. The earbuds are supplied with silicone ear tips in small, medium and large sizes for a better fit. The IPX7 rating ensures they are both waterproof and sweatproof.
For those on the move, the TruBio earbuds have a built-in microphone that enables users to take and make phone calls with a press of the button control on each earbud. The TruBio also offers 30 hours of total playtime from a single charge of the case. A quick burst charge of 30 minutes can deliver up to two hours of listening time, ideal for those impromptu trips or gym sessions. The charging case can be recharged using the supplied USB-C cable.
As well as creating sustainable products, in 2021, Majority launched the Majority Forest with Ecologi, a reforestation organization that works towards a climate-positive future. Majority will be planting trees in the Majority Forest and contributing towards sustainable projects that serve local communities, including protecting the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil and generating solar power in Tamil Nadu and Telangana, India.
As of February 2023, Majority says it has planted 435,735 trees and removed 485.55 tonnes of CO2 emissions from the atmosphere. For every review the company receives for TruBio, Majority says it will plant 100 trees in the name of the media outlet. Just imagine a Forbes forest.
