Women empowerment practitioner Ms.R.Elamathi from Madurai has been selected for a global fellowship by the US-based Institute of International Education (IIE) to engage with gender justice initiatives by being a part of global community for women leadership.
The IIE has recently selected inaugural cohort of Global Community for Women’s Leadership (GCWL) by handpicking women from various countries to support the advancement and retention of women in professional leadership positions worldwide.
This fellowship is considered significant because Ms.Elamathi, who is the Director of Green Fem in Madurai, is one among the two women selected from India for this global pursuit.
“GCWL represents a critical step towards closing the leadership gap globally. This unprecedented global network provides mentorship, resources and skill development opportunities to help women step into and thrive in positions of leadership worldwide. Women hailing from all world areas and career phases will receive support through this inaugural GCWL to pursue leadership development activities unique to their professional trajectories while participating in networking and community-building activities with the cohort at large. They represent 30 countries of origin and disciplines across the professional spectrum including education, economics, human rights, journalism, law, public health, social work, visual arts, business, urban design and architecture, environmental science and international relations etc,” the IIE has said in a statement released from New York in November 2024 while announcing the names of women who were chosen for the fellowship award.
‘I AM EXCITED AND THRILLED’:
Responding to the IIE fellowship and being a part of the inaugural cohort to work for gender justice, Ms.R.Elamathi told ‘Lotus Times’ media in Madurai on December 28th 2024 that he was excited and thrilled when she came to know that she has been selected as a Fellow in the inaugural cohort of the IIE global community for women’s leadership.
“It is a one year fellowship….where I will work for gender equality and gender development programs. I am an active and ardent practitioner of gender justice by carrying out women empowerment initiatives from Madurai. I work for the marginalized women in a big way. This fellowship is a ground-breaking initiative aimed at closing the gender gap in leadership by providing women with the access, resources and support needed to advance women’s careers and create lasting change through right interventions,” Ms.Elamathi said here yesterday.
