LG Energy Solution rated world’s most sustainable battery manufacturer

LG Energy Solution, the parent company of Windsor’s NextStar Energy battery plant, has been named the most sustainable battery manufacturer in the world and ranks 12th among all the world’s corporations.

It’s the first time LG Energy Solution has made Corporate Knights’ prestigious World Top 100 Sustainable Corporations list. The list was compiled from a rigorous ranking system of 8,359 corporations with revenues of $1 billion or more.

“We are honored that Corporate Knights has recognized our leadership in sustainability and ESG practices, naming us one of the world’s most sustainable companies,” said David Kim, CEO of LG Energy Solution in a statement.

“We are fully committed to realizing our vision of leading the future green energy era with innovation in electrification for a sustainable battery ecosystem.”

Corporate Knights Inc. is a sustainable-economy media and research organization founded in 2002 committed to advancing an economic system where both people and the planet thrive.

The corporations’ sustainability practices were ranked on 25 key performance indicators such as sustainable revenue, sustainable investment, resource management, employee management, financial management and supplier performance.

LG Energy Solution’s showing in the key performance indicators of sustainable revenue and sustainable investment earned it the highest possible scores in both areas. The company also scored well in energy productivity and greenhouse gas productivity.

Corporate Knights also rated highly LG Energy Solution’s energy productivity and GHG productivity.

“As one of the world’s largest battery manufacturers, LG Energy Solution is at the centre of what enables the transition to a net-zero economy,” said Toby Heaps, CEO of Corporate Knights.

“The company’s inclusion in the 2025 Global 100 is a testament to its global leadership.”

In addition to reinforcing its own environmental, social and governance management, LG Energy Solution is working to ensure its supply chain partners are also improving their standards.

Building on years of assessing and managing ESG risks in its Tier 1 suppliers, the company expanded these efforts in 2024, developing an IT management system that connects Tier-N suppliers for improved traceability and transparency.

LG plans to progressively broaden the scope of supply chain risk assessment, focusing on core raw material supply chains for critical regulatory compliance.
