A man from Kerala has taken up a mission to distribute 10,000 pots to people who intend to provide water to birds in the summers. The 70-year-old is making pots in Muppathadam village to ensure the well being of birds.
Sreeman Narayanan is an award winning wholesale lottery dealer and lives life by Gandhian principles. In his attempt to distribute 10,000 pots, Narayanan has already distributed 9,000 pots.
The project started by the 70-year-old is called ‘Jeeva jalathinu oru manu pathram’ which translates to ‘an earthen pot for life saving water’. The project began first in 2018 and owing to its massive success, it was started again this year.
While talking to the News Minute, Narayanan said that he has ordered more pots because of them have already been sold. The cost incurred in buying 10,000 pots is around Rs 6 lakh. Narayanan meets these expenses by using up money from his lottery business along with money earned from a restaurant he owns.
Last year, Narayanan distributed 50,000 saplings all in the district for free. A man close to nature, Narayanan said that he had planted 10,000 trees near his house. He also asked the neighbouring families to spare at least one fruit for the birds.
Greatly influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and his life, Narayanan believes that his life should be a message to the world. Narayanan has been involved in various social projects under the name of ‘Ente Gramam Gandhijiyilude’ which means ‘My village through the ways of Gandhiji’. A recent achievement of Narayanan was bagging the SK Pottekkat award for his contribution in saving the environment.
