DIBRUGARH, Sept 29: In a momentous ceremony held at the Dinjan Military Station, the Indian Army forged a significant partnership by signing a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Project DARPAN (Dao and Rising Sun Preparatory Academy in NE) and Project SPEARS (Selection & Preparation for Employment in Army by Rising Sun). The collaborative effort involved the National Integrity and Educational Development Organisation (NIEDO), Coal India Limited, and Oil India Limited.
The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Bimal Borah, state minister for Industries & Commerce and Public Enterprises.
The MoU between the Indian Army, NIEDO, Oil India Ltd, and Coal India Ltd signifies a collective commitment to offer value-based education to underprivileged children residing in Upper Assam.
Through these innovative initiatives, the Indian Army aims to establish a prominent educational hub in Dibrugarh district, dedicated to preparing children from disadvantaged backgrounds for entrance examinations such as NDA (National Defence Academy) and CDS (Combined Defence Services).
The projects extend a helping hand by providing free-of-cost residential coaching, along with lodging and meals, to approximately 120 deserving children over a one-year period.
NIEDO and GAPS (Georgian Academy for Professional Studies) will play pivotal roles in delivering academic guidance, comprehensive syllabus modules, and qualified faculty with rich experience to train students for NDA and CDS examinations.
The Indian defense forces have always symbolised honour and integrity as a ‘Way of Life’, rather than merely a job. The youth of the north-eastern region, brimming with energy and enthusiasm, aspire to contribute to the nation’s growth, making them promising candidates for future defence officers. However, the lack of coaching facilities, infrastructure, and proper guidance has limited their participation in this noble profession.
In response to these challenges, Project DARPAN and Project SPEARS were conceived, offering specialised training by experienced faculty members. This ensures that the children are thoroughly prepared and equipped to navigate the rigorous selection process, including written examinations and personal interviews.
