The government under the Sagarmala scheme and National Waterways Act is developing 20, 275 kilometre long 111 new river course into national water ways.
India has been bestowed with abundant sea water but because of its poor utilisation its potential has been adversely affected.
But now the Narendra Modi government is focused on developing waterways.Government’s schemes and initiatives are aimed at making water transportation more efficient, cost-effective and environment friendly.
The government under the Sagarmala scheme and National Waterways Act is developing 20, 275 kilometre long 111 new river course into national water ways. A 1620 kilometre long national waterway is situated on River Ganga between Haldia and Allahabad.
On Brahmputra river..a 891 kilometre long national waterway 2 between Sadia and Dhubri.
Apart from that western coastal rivers on the coast of Kerala and national waterway 3 in Maharashtra and Goa are being developed.Coastal cargo tansport is being developed on these coasts.Government is also determined to give a boost to tourism apart from making travel easier.More and more preprations are now being made for sea planes.
The sea plane will open up a unique window of connectivity to many areas and regions all over the country where land and other restrictions do not allow construction of a full fledged airport.Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajpati Raju and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari took its testing flight three days back.
It took off from Mumbai airport and landed in the sea at Chaupati.PM Modi listed out the benefits of sea plane and in a tweet said that The experience was unique and those needing even quicker access to medical care and those living in remote areas stand to gain a lot from this new initiative.
The new transportation arrangement is being developed through rivers.The top speed of this plane is around 350 kilometre per hour.As India has not been able to make the best use of Inland waterways which is cost effective and environment friendly.
The government now is focussed on providing connectivity relief to the people.
