“Geological information can play a key role in addressing challenges of sustainable development such as land degradation and groundwater protection, and contribute to improved decision-making processes,” according to Nagaland Minister for Soil & Water Conservation and Geology & Mining, V. Kashiho Sangtam.
He was addressing officers and staff of Directorate of Geology and Mining at a felicitation programme on April 12.
Emphasising on why the department of Geology and Mining plays a key role, the Minister stated that minerals are critical to the state’s economy and therefore, knowing where future mineral resources will come from is important.
Also pointing out that natural processes and human activities often cause stress to the environmental system, the Minister stated that having reliable information about such impact is therefore a critical input into a large number of decision making processes.
The Minister thanked the department for organizing the programme and further stated that he looked forward to working together with the officials of the department. “If we work together as a team, there is nothing that cannot be achieved,” he maintained.
As such, he urged upon the officers to put in more effort so that the department would achieve its full potential.
Meguoriekho Hangsing, Additional Secretary, (G&M) congratulated the Minister on being elected to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Wanthang Rengma, Director DGM, welcoming the Minister said it was an honour and privilege for the department to have a man of action as Minister in-charge of the department. He assured the Minister of full co-operation and support to work together for the welfare of the department and public in general.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Er. R Nakhro, Joint Director (Mining) expressed confidence that the department will spread its wings under the leadership and guidance of V. Kashiho Sangtam.
