Fooditive Group is launching a plant-based sweetener Keto-Fructose or 5-keto-D-fructose in North America for food and beverage manufacturers. The sweetener is currently undergoing Food and Drug Administration and GRAS assessment, according to the company.
The plant-based sweetener is derived from apples and pears using a fermentation process, according to the company. It may be used in such applications as chocolate, baked foods, fruit fillings, glazes and beverages.
“Fooditive understands the challenges associated with replacing sugar,” said Moayad Abushokhedim, chief executive officer of Fooditive. “And we recognize that the effectiveness of a sugar alternative is not solely measured by taste. This is why our Keto-Fructose sweetener goes beyond replicating the beloved sweetness of sugar. Its additional functionality enables seamless use in applications and reflects our dedication to meeting the real needs of food manufacturers with forward-thinking solutions.”
