Apart from the resolutions opposing Sunburn, villagers also voiced concerns about the nuisance caused by sewage discharge from buildings near a mega mart, during the Chicalim Gram Sabha, held on Sunday. Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav stated that the village panchayat had already acted by removing unauthorised pipelines that were draining sewage into a nearby nullah. He emphasised that the panchayat would further address the issue by disconnecting electricity connection for those violating rules or releasing sewage, which poses health hazards.
On the matter of controlling the stray dog population, Yadav mentioned that the panchayat has reached out to the NGO People for Animals (PFA) to address the issue effectively. Regarding community initiatives, Yadav noted that while some villagers have taken the initiative to plant saplings in open spaces, it is important that these areas remain accessible to everyone. The panchayat plans to develop all open spaces within its jurisdiction for community use.
Concerning the development of plots in Chicalim, Yadav explained that the panchayat will ensure proper road construction and compliance with regulations after obtaining approvals and No Objection Certificates (NOC) from the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA). Occupancy certificates will be issued based on adherence to standards, which is crucial for the village’s overall development, he added.
