Just when you feel that you live in a big bad world full of people who are self-centred and manipulative along comes a story that restores our faith in humanity.
In this case, a woman named Aarti Madhusudan from Chennai went out of her way to help a hardworking cab driver and father get a good night’s rest.
Madhusudan shared the heartwarming incident on Facebook saying the driver named Elumalai, worked day and night to pay off loans and secure his kids’ future. She was being driven down to Tirupathi with her parents in an Ola outstation cab.
Madhusudhan wrote, ” He had driven that very morning from Tirupati and never refused any ride because of the loans he needed to pay off. We had booked our stay at the nicest hotel in the town.”
Just as they reached the destination, Madhusudan wondered if cab drivers got any help with accommodations after a long drive.
She took the initiative to a book a room at the same hotel she was staying in. “The next morning I checked if his room was comfortable, if there was hot water , the fan worked, and invited him to have breakfast with us,” she wrote.
Overwhelmed by her kindness, the cab driver broke down and said that it was the first good night’s sleep in weeks.
“We take ours for granted. To be able to be sensitive, kind…it’s a wonderful opportunity. I am grateful for the same and also that the hotel staff took a lot of care in ensuring that Elumalai was treated like any other customer of theirs. Because he was no different,” Madhusudan concludes.
This incident is a reminder to all of us to be more humble and treat everyone as equal; the world will be a much better place to live in.
And thanks to people like Aarti Madhusudan, there’s still hope.
