German carmaker BMW has revealed two new electric scooters.
These futuristic BMW electric scooters are designed to be compact to ease your daily commute and grocery shopping.
One of these scooters can also be folded and slid under your desk at work.
BMW has taken the covers off two futuristic electric scooters designed to make commuting in the city easier, right out of a science-fiction movie set sometime in the 2050s.
With clean, defined handlebars and a simple design, these electric scooters – especially the foldable one – aim to make it easy to wiggle around traffic even during peak hours in a clean and efficient manner.
The second scooter is a three-wheeled option with dedicated space on the back for cargo or even groceries.
The sad part is, these are just concepts, for now. This means that even if you like these scooters and want to buy one for yourself, you cannot.
“Our goal was to develop a concept that retains the agility and driving feel of a normal bicycle while adding innovative, safe transport options,” said Jochen Karg, head of vehicle concepts in BMW’s new technologies and China division.
The tricycle can be an ideal design choice for delivery drivers – especially in cases where the load is more than what can be carried on a two-wheeler, but not big enough for a four-wheeled drive. This tricycle sits right in the middle, and the dedicated cargo space on the back takes the weight off the driver’s shoulders.
To improve rideability, BMW has opted for a large front wheel and two smaller rear wheels with a rigid axle to ensure stability.
On the other hand, the foldable scooter, called Clever Commute, is designed to help you navigate through heavy traffic jams. It is compact enough to traverse narrow openings. Even in the worst-case scenarios where you’re running late for work and the traffic jams are too packed, you can simply fold the scooter and carry it along with you.
BMW says that the Clever Commute can be folded up neatly and stored in your car’s boot, or even your desk at work.
The German carmaker has not announced the power or range of these electric scooters, nor is there a price. However, the company says it’s in discussions with potential licensees to bring these electric scooters on the roads. It remains to be seen if they will carry the BMW brand name or not, if and when they hit the roads.
