Army takes initiative to empower village women for making them self-reliant January 9, 2020 January 9, 2020 / ChangeMaker, Women Empowerment / By SLSV / Leave a Comment BHADARWAH: In a unique women empowerment initiative, the Indian Army has started a women Empowerment Centre (WEC) to impart skill of traditional culinary art especially pickle making to the local women of the remote villages of Bhadarwah in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district so as to save this ancient art and also providing them an opportunity to earn their livelihood.As part of this unique initiative, 4 Rashtriya Rifles is training 75 women drawn from different villages of Bhadarwah from socially backward sections and thereafter providing the means for self employment in traditional pickle -making, to earn their livelihood.For the women of remote villages in the mountainous sub-district of Bhaderwah in Chenab valley, the initiative will go a long way in making them financially more independent and improve the condition of their households.“To help socially and economically weaker sections in the remote villages of Bhaderwah, the Army has taken several initiatives including conducting of pickle-making classes for women at WEC Bhaderwah,” Commanding Officer 4RR Col DD Pandey told PTI.
