Anshula Kant Is The First Female To Be Appointed As MD & CFO Of World Bank August 9, 2019 August 9, 2019 / ChangeMaker, Women Empowerment / By SLSV / 1 Comment Anshula Kant, who was popularly known for her leadership position as managing director at State Bank Of India, has become the first female to be appointed as the managing director and chief financial officer of World Bank. David Malpass, president of the World Bank Group, made this announcement on Friday, also adding that moving forward, Anshula will be responsible for the financial and risk management of the reputed lender. The future is female In his announcement and welcoming speech, Malpass said: “I am very pleased to appoint Anshula Kant as World Bank Group Managing Director and CFO. Anshula brings more than 35 years of expertise in finance, banking, and innovative use of technology through her work as CFO of the State Bank of India. I look forward to welcoming her to our management team, as we work to increase our effectiveness in supporting good development outcomes.” What comes under Anshula’s wing? Given that Anshula’s background and experience credits her with taking up major challenges that deal with treasury, funding, regulatory compliance, and more, her new role will have her actively leading the way to eradicate any loopholes in financial reporting and risk management. She will work in tandem with WB’s Chief Executive Officer, Kristalina Georgieva. Anshula’s credibility In her role as the chief financial officer at State Bank of India, Anshula managed $38 billion worth revenue and total assets of $500 billion. During her stint, she’s said to have improved capital base and has brought about a much needed course of action that aimed towards long-term sustainability. Prior to her duties at SBI, Anshula has also held a number of key assignments, including chief general manager of Mumbai Circle, and CEO at SBI, Singapore. She is a graduate in Economic Honours from Lady Shri Ram College for women, and a postgraduate in Economics from Delhi School Of Economics. She is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers in 1990. Celebrating change Anshula has had an illustrious run in the world of banking for over three decades now, and thanks to her hard work, skill, and dedication towards financial operations, she is now able to raise the bar, making Indians proud at such a prestigious, international platform.
