Amazon India has launched new programme ‘Aurora’ as an initiative to increase the employment of differently abled individuals. The business has completed Aurora’s, pilot programme and plans to expand Aurora to celebrate the talents of people with learning disabilities while increasing awareness and understanding.
“We are passionate about creating a diverse workforce to reflect our customer base and ensure we tap into their diverse perspectives,” said Amazon India’s director of HR operations Liju Thomas, the Press Trust of India reported. “We strongly believe that diversity in the workplace helps create a better, more inclusive environment and we are invested to create opportunities for the underrepresented cohorts. ‘Aurora’ is yet another initiative towards creating a truly inclusive and equitable workplace for people with learning disabilities.”
Amazon India completed the pilot programme for Aurora in partnership with Mumbai-based non-profit organisation Sol Arc, India Retailing reported. The pilot leaders worked with differently abled young adults across Amazon India delivery stations in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad to nurture their talent and facilitate their completion of work-related tasks.
The business plans to harness its Aurora programme to create support networks for its differently abled employees. Amazon India also plans to inspire its employees to become allies to individuals with disabilities to foster an environment of understanding.
