On May 25, GSPIA alum Carey Harris (MPIA ’95) was honored with a 2022 Women of Influence Award by the Pittsburgh Business Times for her work as the CEO of Literacy Pittsburgh, which offers free educational programs for adults and families in Allegheny County and Beaver County. Each year, Harris helps nearly 5,000 people per year improve their reading, writing, math, English language, digital literacy, and workplace skills.
“Literacy Pittsburgh is adult basic education,” she said. “Those who have been left behind, just arrived and never gave up. It’s about very tenacious adults who want to fight an uphill battle to be better parents and get better jobs.”
