A unique feat
Akanksha Kumari has become Coal India’s first woman mining engineer to work in an underground mine.
Progressive step
This is the first time when the core mining activity of one of the biggest coal mining companies of the world has witnessed this progressive change.
Second woman mining engineer
Kumari is the second woman mining engineer in CIL, and the first one to join its arm Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL)at its Churi underground mines in North Karanpura area in Jharkhand.
Comes from mining belt
She is a resident of Barkagaon in Hazaribagh district. Growing up in the mining belt, she saw coal mining activities from close quarters and began taking an interest.
Encouraging women workers
CCL says it encourages its women employees to excel in their roles as officers and doctors and security guards and even in running heavy machines like dumper and shovel. But this is the first time they’ve got a woman mining engineer in their underground mines.
