NaPanta is a mobile app that is helping people make money, about 75,000 of them. But you’ve probably never heard of this app in your life.
This is because it is being used by rural farmers in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to get information around producing a better yield. For the uninitiated, NaPanta is an agricultural crop management mobile app available for free on the Google Play Store.
Developed by Hyderabad-based Naveen Kumar, this mobile app helps farmers access real-time agricultural information, allowing them to make informed decisions about their crop, pesticides, and yield. It comes with features like daily market prices, yearly price trends, and more.
Kumar, who is behind ApnaLoanBazar – a retail loan aggregation platform – had this idea when he was travelling to his home town of Hanamkonda in Warangal back in 2016.
He was troubled by the plight of farmers in his town and decided to help them by providing them with insights that improve their business. Kumar believes that effective communication is necessary for the coordination of real-world situations and government initiatives. Relaying suitable information to farmers lets them take advantage of it sooner.
NaPanta has been incubated and supported by IIIT Hyderabad and AIP-ICRISAT.
The report claims that NaPanta has reached more than 6,400 villages and 75,000 farmers. Daily, the app gets 3,000 unique visitors and 25,000 app interactions.
Apart from crop information, this app also allows access to a five-day weather forecast, crop insurance, cold storage facilities, dealer contacts, location of soil laboratories, and several offline features for when the mobile network is slow.
Available currently in Telugu and English, the mobile app is slowly gaining traction in terms of providing a blend of technology and agricultural information.
