Tezpur (Assam), Feb 26 (PTI) FMCG major Dabur India Ltd today expanded its Community Development agenda in Assam with the launch of WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) awareness initiative targeting school children in Tezpur.
As part of the initiative, a camp was organized at two government primary schools to raise awareness about clean drinking water, proper sanitation and hygiene in households and schools, Dabur head of Corporate Social Responsibility A Sudhakar said.
Special training sessions were also organized at both the schools for parents of children studying in these schools, its teachers and School Management Committee members to bring about a behavioural change and promote hygiene.
“We believe that access to safe and hygienic sanitation is a basic human right, and dissemination of knowledge about best hygiene and sanitation practices is equally important, particularly among school going children,” Sudhakar said told reporters.
Dustbins will be distributed in rural schools and children educated against throwing garbage in the open, he said adding that schools will be supported in constructing hand-washing stations and separate toilet blocks for girls and boys.
