A private petroleum company would fund the project (Rs 9.8 crore) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

According to the Newspaper,The MC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Petroleum, according to which the company will fund the project. Under this project, the MC will install fully underground smart bins cum bio-compactor, semi smart waste collection bins and a bio-methanisation plant in the area around Golden Temple in first phase of project. MC officials say the company has agreed to give a grant of Rs 3.30 crore for the first phase, out of which Rs 1.65 crore has already been received.
