Farmers go ecofriendly this Raksha Bandhan with ‘green rakhis’

Struggling farmers of Vidarbha have come up with an innovative way to celebrate ‘Raksha bandhan’ this year. The women farmers of the Vidarbha has come up with an environmental friendly ‘Rakhi’ called ‘Seed Band’, which is made completely out of organic materials.

This innovative initiative is being organised by the ‘Nagpur Bijotsav Group’ and ‘Gramart’ consisting of 50 women farmers from different villages of Vidarbha and Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh.

The Rakhi is prepared using natural colours from the thread derived out of native cotton using natural gum. No chemicals are used in the preparation of the Rakhi. Only native and organic ingredients are used for the various processes involved in making the rakhi including five different types of seeds.
