LUCKNOW: The next time you’re shopping in Hazratganj and suddenly feel the need to use the loo, all you’ll have to do is use Google Maps to find the nearest toilet.
This is because Lucknow is among 85 cities in the country selected by the central government for launching mobile toilet-locators. The project, initiated under Swachh Bharat Mission, will sync the locations of public as well as community toilets in the city to Google Maps.
The map will also have information on malls, petrol pumps, railway station and bus station in the vicinity. The information will be available in both Hindi and English. In the case of toilets, people would also get a chance to give their feedback about the condition of the toilet they used and their experience of locating it.
The facility will become functional in the city from October 2. It has already been started in a few cities of Madhya Pradesh and NCRs on a pilot basis.
Pankaj Bhushan, the environment engineer looking after the project, said, “The project is referred to as ‘Mission Toilet Locator‘ and it will come into use from October 2. All the new toilet compounds built or in building stage will be synced with the map.”
