Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is set to get a leg-up in the Mysuru and Nanjangud district of Karnataka with local industries agreeing to be partners in development.
Medical equipment worth Rs.10 lakh to taluk general hospitals, drinking water purification units, development of 10 anganwadis in the district as a model, adoption and comprehensive development of a gram panchayat as model under MP’s ideal village scheme are some of the programmes to be implemented under the CSR scheme in the district.
This was agreed upon at a meeting on CSR held recently by the Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha with the industrialists of Mysuru and Nanjangud.
The meeting resulted in the industrialists giving their consent for greater participation and as a first step the Reserve Bank of India Note Mudranalaya agreed to provide Rs.10 lakh worth of medical equipment to taluk hospitals apart installing water purifiers.
AT&S agreed to develop 10 anganwadis as a model and provide toilet facilities for children, toys, mosquito nets, study materials etc and help create a child-friendly atmosphere at these centres.
Mysuru Paints and Varnishes has agreed to develop B.Matgere gram panchayat under the MP’s ideal village scheme and take up various development works there.
Bannari Amman Sugar Factory has agreed to fund bio-fuel generating units using vegetable waste while the South India Paper Mills has agreed to install solid waste management nits at three villages. The Nestle on its part has agreed to construct school toilets.
The other companies which have committed to fund social projects under CSR include SKF Technologies which will install two water purification units at Nanjangud General Hospital. The Deputy Commissioner also discussed issues related to the development of the industrial areas at Nanjangud, Tandya, Kadakola and the zilla panchayat officials were asked to look into the complaints of excessive tax being imposed by the local bodies.
