The event was graced by Bhairab Bhuyan, ED – Engg Services & President, OIRDS, Debashis Bora, CGM-FA & Vice-President, OIRDS, and Sanghamitra Baruah, Co-District Commissioner, Naharkatia, along with senior officials from OIL and OIRD and representatives from 14 adopted Pathar Parichalona Samities (PPSs) across Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and Charaideo districts, supported for Sali and Rabi cultivation.
The event served as an interactive platform for farmers to engage with OIRDS teams and agricultural experts on key topics such as sustainable farming practices and advanced technologies. The session also encouraged farmers to provide feedback for future programme enhancements.
In her speech, Sanghamitra Baruah, Co-District Commissioner, Naharkatia, commended OIL and OIRDS for their unwavering commitment to rural development, emphasizing that their support for farmers, ‘the backbone of our economy,’ was instrumental in fostering agricultural growth and sustainability.
A competition was held to award the best-performing PPSs based on paddy and vegetable production during the last Kharif and Rabi season. In this, SEUJ Pathar Parichalana Samiti, Dibrugarh, won the award for highest Sali production, while Uttar Somdar Pathar Parichalana Samiti, Charaideo, was recognized for outstanding Rabi production. Other participating PPSs also recorded impressive yields and were presented with certificates of appreciation. Farmers shared their success stories, acknowledging the comprehensive support provided by OIL, including hands-on training by technical experts from the Agriculture Department, Government of Assam.
Held annually, ‘Meet the Farmers’ continues to foster knowledge exchange, innovation, and motivation among farming communities, reinforcing OIL’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and rural development.
