Egypt hosts event to launch OECD guidelines on sustainable business practices

General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), hosted an event titled “Responsible Business Conduct in Egypt: Towards a Sustainable Future.” The event marked the launch of the Arabic version of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct, as per an Egyptian Cabinet’s statement on Sunday.

As the Secretariat and President of Egypt’s National Contact Point (NCP) for Responsible Business Conduct, GAFI plays a pivotal role in coordinating sustainability efforts across government bodies, promoting responsible business practices, and enhancing corporate awareness of global standards.

Investment Minister Hassan El-Khatib inaugurated the event, which included discussions on sustainable business practices, competitiveness, and the impact of global sustainability regulations.

A key focus was the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), requiring companies to ensure human rights protection in supply chains – a measure expected to influence Egyptian companies’ access to European and advanced markets.

The event underscored Egypt’s commitment to aligning with international standards to support sustainable development and foster responsible business conduct.
