The Odisha government has approved key welfare measures, including a substantial hike in social security pensions. Starting January 2025, senior citizens aged 80 and above, along with individuals with over 80 per cent disability, will receive Rs 3,500 per month, up from Rs 1,200. This increase aims to provide enhanced support to the state’s most vulnerable populations.

In addition, the government approved the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijili Yojana, targeting the installation of rooftop solar panels in 3 lakh households across Odisha. The state will offer a subsidy of Rs 25,000, complementing the central government’s Rs 30,000 subsidy for 1-kilowatt panels, with the project set to be completed by March 2027.

The cabinet also extended the Subhadra Yojana for eligible women, offering Rs 10,000 in two installments for 2024. Additionally, Rs 847.14 crore was allocated for the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana to support agri-entrepreneurs.

Other decisions included a Rs 17,500 crore government guarantee for the Odisha State Civil Supplies Corporation (OSCSC), and amendments to the Rules of Business, transferring control of minor minerals to the Steel and Mines Department.

These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to improving social welfare, promoting clean energy, and enhancing infrastructure in Odisha.
