Powergrid is set to upgrade crematoriums and graveyards in 658 villages across Haryana’s Karnal, Panipat, Rewari, and Kurukshetra districts. This initiative is part of the Shivdham Yojana, with an investment of Rs 50 crore. The project aims to enhance rural infrastructure through corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with the Development and Panchayats Department in Gurugram.
Investment and Infrastructure Development
Powergrid will allocate approximately Rs 49.94 crore for this renovation project. The funds will be used to construct boundary walls and paved roads at all 658 sites. Additionally, sheds will be installed, and drinking water facilities will be provided. The initiative reflects a significant contribution towards rural development, as highlighted by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
The MoU was signed by JK Abhir, Director General of the Development and Panchayats Department, and Sanjay Kumar Verma, General Manager of Powergrid. The signing ceremony was attended by several officials, including Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh and Cooperative and Tourism Minister Arvind Sharma.
Allocation of Funds Across Districts
The project will see over Rs 10.97 crore spent on renovating Shivdhams in 198 villages in Karnal district. In Kurukshetra district, more than Rs 18.46 crore will be allocated for 237 villages. Panipat district will receive over Rs 5.15 crore for improvements in 106 villages, while Rewari district will benefit from Rs 15.35 crore for 117 villages.
Powergrid Chairman RK Tyagi emphasised the importance of this initiative for rural communities. The population of these villages is estimated at around 40 lakhs, indicating the project’s potential impact on a large number of residents.
The collaboration between Powergrid and the Development and Panchayats Department underlines a commitment to social upliftment through infrastructure development. By investing in essential facilities like crematoriums and graveyards, the project aims to improve living conditions in rural areas.
