They will enhance port’s eco-friendly facilities and ultimately reduce its emissions
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), the Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA), and the Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation (MPSF) to establish a green fuel ecosystem at Mumbai Port. BPCL and MbPA will collaborate to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Mumbai Port as part of this project.
The MoU also seeks to explore plans to change part of the steamships to cleaner fuels, enhance the port’s eco-friendly facilities and ultimately reduce its emissions. In accordance with the terms of the agreement, BPCL and MPSF will work together to develop systems for the Mumbai Port’s solid waste processing, storage, and segregation of recyclable and non-recyclable materials.
This programme encourages socially conscious behaviour, which makes the workplace cleaner and more environmentally friendly. This partnership is a perfect example of how to enhance Research & Development challenges of the energy industry by integrating novel technologies and concepts. Consistent with the nation’s commitment towards environmental protection, Mumbai Port has emerged as a leading environment sensitive port through adoption of LNG and green energy facilities; and thus following BPCL’s good practices towards making India sustainable for the future. BPCL, MbPA, and MPSF are amenable to the MoU that aligns with BPCL’s strategic net-zero goal across both Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2040.
