Chhattisgarh: Artificial limb manufacturing centre in naxal-hit Dantewada gives new life to divyangs

With support of the Chhattisgarh Government, a centre for artificial limbs and accessories manufacturing in the naxal- infested Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh is giving a new lease of life to differently- abled people.

The centre operational within the campus of Dantewada District Hospital has helped over persons, including children, deal with physical challenges.

The centre was started in 2017 with the initiative of the district collector and the support of the Chhattisgarh Government, said Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Sanjay Basak.

The centre of Dantewada is famous across Chhattisgarh and so far, it has provided artificial limbs to over 1400 people, said the CMHO.

Along with Chhattisgarh, people from Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh reach here for the treatment, stated Basak.

After proper measurement, the centre’s in charge Anirrudh prepared artificial limbs for patients and also giving them know-how about the use, elaborated Basak.

The CMHO further informed that the artificial limbs prepared here at the centre are very lightweight, durable and free of cost. The centre is continuously gaining popularity in the region. With the support of the state government and District Collector Mayank Chaturvedi, the centre is expected to grow.

After the Mana centre in Raipur, the second centre started in Dantewada, said senior prosthetic and orthotics Anirudh Prasad.
