In a joint effort to bring greater visibility to the challenges of the visually impaired community, Torchit a social start-up company distributed Saarthi Smart Cane (SSC) to visually impaired person during a distribution event held at Prodigals Home, Fellowship Colony, Dimapur, on Thursday.
The initiative was funded by IRCTC as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, in collaboration with the Blind People’s Association (BPA), Torchit, Govt. of India, MoLE, DGE, National Career Service Centre for Differently-Abled, Dimapur, Nagaland State Disability Forum (NSDF) and Prodigals’ Home, Dimapur.
The SSC device, powered by sonar technology, has been designed to provide vital assistance to those with Visually Impaired, ensuring safer navigation in their day to day lives with key features such as advanced sonar technology, which detects obstacles within 2, 4, and 8 feet, providing timely feedback to users through vibrations and adjustable mode with the flexibility to switch between 2, 4, and 8 feet modes, users can tailor the device to their specific needs, ensuring optimal assistance in various environments.
Prem Katar, Torchit in his short speech while highlighting about the SSC device said that Torchit, in association with Blind People’s Association, received financial support from IRCTC to distribute 2,000 Saarthi Devices (Smart Canes) in North Eastern Region.
Short speeches were also delivered by Director (Empl.), National Career Service Centre for Differently-Abled, Dimapur, Govt. of India, MoL&E, DGE Dr. T. Mohan, President, NSDF Fatima Vikeguno Kera and Viketukho Nakhro from office of the state commissioner for PWDs.
The programme was moderated by missionary to PWDs Kewimadanlule, invocation by missionary, mission to the blind North East Alivino Sumi, special song by Moba Langphong & friends, vote of thanks by director, prodigals home K. Ela and gratitude & benediction by Vikili Assumi, TIKVAH centre.
