Delhi Residents Struggle With Health Woes Amidst Lingering Cold & Pollution

Meteorological Department predicts a continued dip in temperature for the coming days. Hospitals have observed a rise of 7 to 10 per cent in patients seeking treatment for cold-related problems

As per the media reports as the winter maintains its icy grip on Delhi, locals, including asthma patients, grapple with escalating health issues. Persistent dense fog blankets parts of the city, increasing concerns about respiratory problems and other ailments.

Residents report a range of symptoms, including cough, cold, throat irritation, chest tightness, low oxygen levels, burning sensation in the eyes, and high fever. Dr Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of Loknayak Jai Prakash Hospital, urges caution, advising people to avoid outdoor activities during the foggy conditions. He emphasises the health risks associated with dense fog, particularly for vulnerable individuals such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions.

“The drop in temperature is leading to problems like chest infections and pneumonia, especially among children and the elderly. The number of patients with respiratory issues, including asthmatic patients, has surged,” notes Dr Suresh.

He further emphasises the need for extra care for individuals with pre-existing conditions, stating, “Patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, or other serious diseases should be more careful when venturing outdoors during this season.”

Reportedly the Meteorological Department predicts a continued dip in temperature for the coming days. Hospitals have observed a rise of 7 to 10 per cent in patients seeking treatment for cold-related problems.

Despite the challenges, Dr Suresh reassures that many patients recover after a few days of treatment. The situation remains dynamic, with foggy conditions persisting in various regions, affecting visibility and aggravating health concerns.
