One of the notable contributions of SECL is in the area of promoting education. The company has provided financial assistance for setting up smart classrooms in Bilaspur city government and English medium schools. SECL has also allocated funds for the facility of smart classes in various government schools in the Raigad district. Its efforts have resulted in Excellence Award from the World CSR Institute for its remarkable work in corporate social responsibility.
SECL’s commitment to sustainable development is evident in its efforts to promote skill development, rural development, and the environment. In addition, the company has helped persons with disabilities and veterans and promoted sports. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company gave financial support to the state government for operating exclusive COVID Treatment Centers in Bilaspur and Ambikapur districts. With the help of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a CT scan, and MRI scan machine has been made available in CIMS Bilaspur at a low cost, making modern testing accessible to ordinary people. These initiatives demonstrate the company’s commitment to providing accessible and affordable healthcare facilities to people living in remote areas. It has spent more than Rs 700 crore on various developmental works under CSR in the last eight years. Out of Rs 700 crore, about Rs 500 crore has been spent in Chhattisgarh.
