The tech titan, Google has announced the launch of an accelerator program specifically for women entrepreneurs named as ‘Google for Startups Accelerator India – India Women Founders’ on Tuesday.
Helping Women Founders
As the name suggests, the programme is aimed towards helping women founders address challenges that are unique to their experience.
The programme also includes fundraising and hiring, as per the company statement.
Further adding that the inaugural batch of Google for Startups Accelerator – India Women Founders programme will accept up to 20 women-founded/co-founded startups in India.
This will include startups at the MVP (Minimum Viable Product) stage, and support them through a three-month programme.
Google is planning to place special focus on areas like access to networks, access to capital, hiring challenges, mentorship, and many others, as per its statement in a blog post.
Besides this, the curriculum will also include workshops and support around AI/ML, Cloud, UX, Android, web, product strategy, and growth.
The IT giant will also provide access to a global community of women founders.
Improving Women Participation
Google said that the programme is part of a larger effort by Google towards improving the representation of women across different sections of India’s digitally-trained workforce.
Be it entrepreneurship, professionals looking to upskill, or young graduates seeking a headstart on their career, with the ultimate objective of making technology universally relevant and helpful.
Please note here that the programme will accept applications till July 10, 2022.
Home Of 100 Unicorns
If we see closely, India has become the world’s third largest startup capital, trailing only the US and China.
With over a 100 unicorns, with 22 added to the list just in 2022, spanning verticals such as e-commerce, healthtech, fintech and others.
Interestingly, only 15 percent of these Indian unicorns have one or more women founders.
Google said, “As Indian startups look to reinvent more sectors of the economy through technology, equal representation of women at the helm of this wave is critical to ensure that the promised changes are universally relevant and helpful,”.
