- Solar plants as CSR offer a massive opportunity to take solar where they can really add value.
- From institutions to religious places to industrial clusters, there is a strong case to support solar adoption across Asia, especially India.
Sri Lanka, which otherwise has very good weather conditions for solar power generation, is finally changing, and changing fast. Close on the heels of the government making plans to ramp up renewable energy generation from solar and wind, comes this story of a firm using Solar energy as a CSR initiative at a temple. Rooftop solar is already in focus this year, creating grounds for a larger push as local expertise and resources develop further.
S.L.A.M Power Solutions (Pvt ) Ltd., FIMER’s exclusive channel partner in Sri Lanka, has donated a solar power system to Rathmalana
Piyarathanarama Temple. The Piyarathanarama sacred temple as it is popularly called is a Buddhist temple situated in Attidiya near Colombo is a vital religious service and support provider to its nearby community members.
To help the temple manage its electricity bills, FIMER supplied its UNO-DM-5kW inverter through S.L.A.M Power Solutions (Pvt) Ltd who donated a 5kW solar PV system as a part of its annual CSR program.
In the temple, there are approximately eight monks residing at present along with another group of “Dayaka” members. The temple was facing high electricity power bills and due to insufficient funds, had approached Manoj Tharaka, Director of S.L.A.M Power Solutions, for a feasible solution to curb rising electricity costs. S.L.A.M Power assessed the requirements of the holy place and decided to donate the entire system of 5kW to the temple authorities.
FIMER’s UNO-DM-5kW inverter was chosen for this project.
Chirag Wijenayake, Director of Green Light Solar Lanka, who was the EPC contractor for this project, emphasised the quality of products along with local warranty handling and after sales service. He further added: “We chose to work with FIMER because of its proven quality and service provided.”
KN Sreevatsa, Country Managing Director (India) says “At FIMER, we believe not only in providing tailormade solutions for the customer’s maximum benefit but we also like to “Make a difference” to their lives. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our perception of the world
in unexpected ways. It forcibly nudged everyone into reinventing the way they live and work.
At FIMER, we are rethinking ways to alleviate some of this damage through social responsibility initiatives. It is time for us to actively look at how we can give back to society without violating social distancing norms.”
