A sustainable corporate social responsibility program requires the support of staff members from all levels of the company. By considering a wide range of opinions and interests, companies can become involved in their local community in a way that truly excites employees. RevGen Partners, a Civic 50 Colorado 2020 honoree, highlights how the involvement of their leadership has been especially important within the company’s CSR program. The Civic 50 Colorado honors the 50 most civic minded companies across the state.
What’s one thing that your company considers a CSR best practice? The idea of corporate social responsibility is embedded in our core value of stewardship: “We think beyond ourselves so that the actions we take today will have a lasting impact on our clients, our community, our business, and one another.” As a result, RevGen’s CSR efforts are driven equally from the top down and the bottom up. Our senior leadership are visible supporters of our community through their engagement and leadership in nonprofits. And equally important, they are visible supporters and participants of the initiatives that are led by RevGenerosity, our employee-led philanthropy team.
What advice would you give other companies on how to get started with CSR? Start small with small goals. Measure your results, learn from your experiences, and share your stories.
What CSR has your company conducted that is especially innovative? In 2013, building on our informal volunteer activities, we formally launched an employee-led philanthropy team which we recently rebranded as RevGenerosity. This team takes the lead in engaging interested employees in three core initiatives each year: a community partnership to provide pro-bono, volunteer, and financial support for one non-profit; bi-annual grant cycles to solicit and review applications for nonprofit programs to receive one-time grants; and a family volunteer event to gather together with our children and significant others to make a difference in our community.
The Civic 50 Colorado 2020 award is supported by CSR Solutions of Colorado, which submitted this Q&A. CSR Solutions of Colorado, a project of Community Shares of Colorado and Spark the Change Colorado, provides companies with the best tools and practices to implement corporate social responsibility. Through this important work, CSR Solutions of Colorado connects companies to great causes, truly highlighting the power of volunteerism and collaboration. Denver Business Journal edited this story.
