Ace mathematician Prof Anand Kumar, whose life inspired a Bollywood flick, ‘Super 30’, reached the LPU campus, near Jalandhar, today where he interacted with thousands of students.

Prof Anand’s character has been played by none other than Hrithik Roshan, for which the ace actor is earning acclamations. He was here for an educational programme, ‘Shiksha’, organised by ‘Sankalp Enviro’, an organisation of LPU students, which aims to educate the poor and slum-dwellers in nearby villages. While interacting with the students, Professor Anand told them many success-oriented mantras to adopt in life. Talking about his poverty-ridden student life and humane endeavours, Anand shared many strength-providing and morale-boosting stories of his parents and younger brother in initial stages and those of his students in later stages.
In spite of poor financial condition at home, Anand has been running an innovative ‘Super 30’ programme for the past 18 years to mentor 30 students free of cost through a year-long residential coaching for IIT-JEE. The success rate has been outstanding, with students from underprivileged sections entering the premiere international institutions and companies.

He quoted examples of auto-rickshaw driver’s daughter Nidhi Jha, slum-dwellers Abhishek Raj, Shashi Narayan and more. A teacher in the true sense, Anand is of the view that an educated world would be much better place due to a greater understanding and compassion. Anand said: “Through ‘Super 30’, I have experienced how the smile of success on faces of learners brings cheer to both family and the community.”

A top educational programme in India, ‘Super 30’ was started in Patna (Bihar) under the banner of the Ramanujan School of Mathematics.

Professor Anand thanked LPU management for providing opportunity to interact with international and national students, and for lighting the flame of innovative education among deserving students. LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal, Pro-Chancellor Rashmi Mittal, DG (Operations) Subhashish Mazumdaar, Executive Dean Dr Sanjay Modi welcomed the guest. They highlighted that Anand has also been honoured in San Jose (California), America, with the prestigious ‘Education Excellence Award 2019’, in recognition of his contributions towards educating needy students.

He exhorted all teachers, parents and people to help education become the strongest weapon to fight all problems of the world, including corruption, poverty, unemployment and terrorism. He asked students: “Dream big, think big, work hard and reach innovation level. Always be in a good company as it influences much to do the best in life.”

He also advised students to read subjects by seeking answers to all ‘how’ and ‘why’ pertaining to these. Believing firmly in youth power, he invoked LPU students to always have patience and be strong change makers in society. He told students how he declined offers of donations for his school and to contest elections on symbols of reputed political parties.

He also shared stories of his father, who used to work with the Postal Department, his mother making ‘papads’ for livelihood, and his younger brother saving him from many evil designs of oppressors.
